Heaven Hill’s Commitment to Environmental Progress

At Heaven Hill, we view sustainability as a responsibility we share with the communities we serve and the industry we’re part of. Through our 2030 Environmental Sustainability Strategy, we’re tackling critical areas like water efficiency, carbon emissions, waste reduction and conservation to help build a stronger, healthier future.

We’ve made measurable progress recently in several areas. In November 2023, we were honored to receive the EPA’s first-ever ENERGY STAR certifications for distilleries at two of our facilities: the historic Bernheim Distillery in Louisville, Kentucky, and the Deep Eddy Vodka Distillery in Buda, Texas. These certifications recognize superior energy efficiency and performance, reflecting the success of projects like boiler and insulation upgrades, tree planting and the replacement of light fixtures with LEDs. For Bernheim, this achievement highlights nearly 90 years of innovation and our continued dedication to reducing emissions and improving energy infrastructure in Louisville and the California neighborhood, specifically.

In 2024, additional projects across our operations reduced more than 200 metric tons of CO2 emissions. Our Logger Education Program continues to promote sustainable forestry practices and facility upgrades have improved energy and water efficiency across the board.

Our soon-to-open Heaven Hill Springs Distillery in Bardstown, Kentucky, reflects the same commitment. Designed as part of our 2030 strategy, the $200 million distillery features equipment insulation for energy conservation, a wastewater pretreatment system for energy recovery, and native landscaping to manage stormwater runoff and improve local habitats.

This work is being recognized within and beyond the spirits industry. Just last month, we received a Special Commendation for Water Preservation Achievement of the Year at the Global Drinks Intel ESG Awards, a nod to the importance of optimizing water use. Earlier in the year, we were proud to be named Sustainable Distiller of the Year. These accolades highlight our focus on responsible practices that contribute to shared industry goals.

Our people are also a driving force behind these initiatives. This year, Rachel Nally, our director of environment and sustainability shared services, joined the board of directors for the Kentucky Pollution Prevention Center, reinforcing our commitment to working with community partners to find innovative solutions.

Sustainability is a journey, and we’re committed to doing our part while learning from others along the way. Whether it’s through facility innovations, conservation programs, or industry collaboration, we aim to make a meaningful impact that benefits everyone.
